Esther Dunich Obituary

Age 92, of Carnegie on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.  Beloved wife of the late James F. Gannon, and the late Paul J. Dunich; loving mother of Della Iacono (Mark), Vanessa Yaworski (late Gregory), Jaime Gannon, Leo Gannon (Virginia) and Kim Gannon; stepmother of Deborah Carter (William).  Sister of Laura Chabassol and the late Aldo Pruner, Almo Pruner and Christina Orient.  Grandmother of Nicole Marchinsky (Michael), Jocelyn Norbeck (Casey), Steven Yaworski, Colin Yaworski (Shannon), Samantha Daniels (Tyler), Amanda Gannon (Angela Sateriale), Christopher Carter (Ashlie), and the late Natalie Iacono.  Also survived by seven great-grandchildren Mason, Roman, Leila, Caden, Jackson, Jorja and Ivan.  Esther was the fourth of five kids born into her Italian American family.  She was a proud 1948 graduate of Bridgeville High School (and would continue to be a member of her reunion committee, bringing classmates together as recently as their 70th celebration in 2018).  As a teen, Esther was a talented dancer and twirler and was known throughout Bridgeville for her headdress and high-stepping, as she was the head majorette in the Bridgeville Drum and Bugle Corps.  During high school, she also attended beauty school and turned her trade into a successful, lifelong career.  As an entrepreneur, she owned and operated the Mary Kay Beauty Salon in Carnegie for over 73 years.  Esther was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  As a woman of faith, she attended St. Luke's and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church for over 70 years.  Esther believed in charitable works and volunteered her time weekly at St. Clair Hospital for 30 years and also helped bake for the Carnegie Meals on Wheels.  She was also kind and generous to her neighbors and customers.  In her spare time, Esther loved dancing, bowling, traveling, the casino, and family events.  She will always be remembered for her can-do attitude, positive outlook, tenacity and grace.  Visitation Friday 1-4 & 6-8pm at the Henney, Bradwell & Nirella Funeral Home, 524 Washington Ave., Carnegie.  Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 10am, St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 330 Third Ave., Carnegie.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, St. Raphael the Archangel Conference, c/o St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 330 Third Ave., Carnegie, PA  15106; or http://svdppitt.org/donate/donate
