Nixon, Homer L. Jr. Age 90 of Carnegie, on Saturday October 10, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Lee Nixon. Loving father of Nancy Wisniewski (Walt) and Tom Nixon (Kim). Also survived by two grandchildren; Ashley Bailey (Frank), Brad Wisniewski (Demi Miller) and three great-grandchildren; Kenzie, Teagan and Skyler Bailey.
Homer possessed a lifelong passion for hunting and shooting, particularly wild bird hunting and clay target sports. More specifically, he enjoyed ruffed grouse hunting, sporting clays, and a variation of trap shooting known as “Annie Oakleys”. As local Pennsylvania grouse numbers declined, his attention was drawn more toward sporting clays and Annie Oakleys. Although he was an above average sporting clays shooter, (scoring in the low 80’s while he himself was in his low 80’s), he was best known around local gun clubs, and especially at Library Sportsmen’s Association, for his Annie Oakley skills. This past summer, while just shy of his 90th birthday, he was still known to break more than his fair share of fast moving clay targets at distances in excess of 100 yards. Over the years, when the name of one of Homer’s old shooting buddies would come up in conversation, a standard reply from Homer was often simply, …“he was a good shooter”. As the years go by and future Annie Oakley conversations drift to those that have gone before us, when Homer's name is mentioned, I'd like to think that it will be said, among other things, “Homer Nixon…he was a good shooter”.
